Help Support Glendale’s Rose Float Association

The Glendale Rose Float Association needs the community’s help!

The city first participated in the Rose Parade back in 1911 and has continued its participation for the last 97 years.  Glendale’s float has the record of being the second longest running entrant in the annual Tournament of Roses parade watched by millions.

This year might be the year the long standing record is broken if the city isn’t able to get the donations it needs.  The deadline is the end of the month and if it’s not met Glendale will be forced to withdrawal.

“I wish people in the city would consider real quickly if they would like to help preserve the history of the float — 97 years,” said Councilman Dave Weaver, a longtime float advocate and chairman of last year’s decorating committee, according to Glendale News-Press.  “I hope that they will send in a contribution very soon.  Time is running out.”

The cost for construction and management is roughly $130,000.  The Glendale Rose Float Association is asked to raise $50,000 by donations; this amount offset the city subsidy.  The public seems unwilling to donate this year making the goal almost impossible.  The association has only received $596 of the $50,000 it needs.

Rick Caruso, Americana at Brand developer, stepped in this week.  He donated $25,000 challenging the community to raise the other half.  This might be the encouragement the people and local businesses needed to get the donations rolling in.

The Glendale News-Press reported City Councilman Dave Weaver’s response to the donation, “It was kind of a last-minute shock because fundraising hasn’t exactly gone bonkers,” he said. “I’m hoping this challenge will work.  I’m really grateful.”

If you would like to see Glendale’s impressive record continue on and make it to year 98, help the association meet their deadline.  Follow the link below and make a donation online:
