Marilyn Monroe’s Brentwood Home For Sale

The hacienda where Marilyn Monroe spent the last months of her life before overdosing in 1962 is on the real estate market.  The Brentwood estate has a listing price of $3,600,000.  She originally purchased the property for $90,000 in 1962.  Located on a cul-de-sac and considered to be the prime property of the neighborhood, the estate’s 23,200 square-foot lot is kept private behind tall gates.  Although the home may be considered a little small compared to what today’s starlets occupy in Hollywood, Marilyn knew how to live in luxury.

The Spanish style home was built in 1929 and features 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, living room, family room, period tiled fireplace, terra cotta tiled floors, casement windows, and original wood beamed ceilings.  Outside you can enjoy the private courtyard, kidney shaped swimming pool, citrus grove and fabulous views of Los Angeles.

Marilyn never actually got swim in the pool since her stay there was so short, but it was known that it was one of the reasons she purchased the home.  Much of the house was still unfurnished even.  She was found dead by her psychoanalyst at age 36 in her bedroom of an overdose, while still holding a telephone receiver. There are many myths and conspiracy theories that fill the actress’ last day in the home.  When actress Veronica Hamel purchased the home in the 70’s, she found a wire tapping system while remodeling.  Rumors ignited that the Mafia may have been listening in on Marilyn’s day-to-day activies and may have even been responsible for her death.
