Los Angeles Comedy Shows this Month: Legends Only

Los Angeles, CA is arguably the comedy capital of the world. The home of entertainment boasts many comedy shows every single night, but sometimes it’s hard to weed through the noise of seasoned comedians versus… well, utter crap. So, here’s a list of headliner comedians with years of experience, comedy specials, and jokes galore. If you’re looking to belly laugh, consider these Los Angeles comedy shows running throughout the month of August:

1) Whitney Cummings, Dane Cook, Arsenio Hall & More

Tuesday, August 1st is going to be a HUGE night at the Hollywood Improv. Big-name comedians include Whitney Cummings, Dane Cook, and Arsenio Hall, although there will be many other seasoned comedians giving their all onstage including Andrew Santino, Jay Pharoah, Brian Monarch, and more.

Arsenio Hall should need no introduction, but here we are. He put talk shows on the map with The Arsenio Hall Show that ran from 1989 – 1994. He’s appeared in dozens of movies and TV shows, most notably his character Semmi in Coming to America which he played opposite Eddie Murphy.

Dane Cook, too, is very recognizable. Having not only appeared in many movies, Dane Cook is no stranger to being the lead actor in many blockbuster films such as Good Luck Chuck and My Best Friend’s Girl. As far as comedy goes, Dane Cook has had not one but FIVE televised comedy specials. Needless to say, he is comfortable onstage and it shows.

Whitney Cummings too has had a comedy special which is still available now, streaming on Netflix, called Whitney Cummings: Jokes. Just like the rest of these comedy mega-stars, Whitney Cummings has starred in movies such as Made of Honor and The Wedding Ringer. In addition, she also had her own 38-episode show called Whitney which ran from 2011 to 2013.

2) Chris D’Elia

Whitney Cummings wasn’t the only notable star to come from the show Whitney. Chris D’Elia got a big break when he landed his role as Alex Miller on the NBC sitcom. Since the show, he later went on to have his comedy special, White Male. Black Comic., air on Comedy Central in 2013. Since then, he’s been no stranger to headlining comedy shows and news articles. If you’re willing to block out the noise, this controversial comedian is spearheading quite a few comedy shows this month. 3) Sarah Silverman

She’s no stranger to the big screen, small screen, or a large stage opposite of thousands of comedy-lovers. This comedian is also a well-known actress having starred in her own TV Series, The Sarah Silverman Program, and well-renowned slapstick comedy films such as School of Rock. Although she’s also a host of the two-time Emmy-nominated show, I Love You America, a writer, and a producer – she’s keeping the comedy stage warm with shows throughout the month of August. On Friday, August 4th she’s gracing the stage at the Los Angeles Largo. Later in the month on Monday, August 21st at 7 PM she’s also set to take the stage at the Hollywood Improv.

4) David Spade

Another one of these comedian rock stars that had their very own TV Show was David Spade with his hit show Just Shoot Me that ran a total of 7 seasons from 1997 onward. He is also no stranger to comedy specials with his most recent 2022 special currently streaming on Netflix, David Spade: Nothing Personal. Though his comedy careers spans decades, Spade is likely most known for his movie role in the slapstick comedy Joe Dirt. His career in film might be just as impressive as his comedy career as the success of Joe Dirt was no mistake. Other films that are household names in which he played a large role include Tommy Boy, The Benchwarmers, and the animated hit The Emperor’s New Groove.

6) D.L. Hughley

This stand-up comedian has a long history with the stage. In fact, Hughley’s fame dates back to when he debuted as the original host of BET’s ComicView which aired from 1992 – 1993. He then went on to land a sitcom, The Hughley’s, which graced the air from 1998 – 2002 on ABC. As far as comedy goes, he’s a member of the iconic “The Original Kings of Comedy” which was also a 2000 movie. However, many cast members still do stand-up tours together to this day as The Original Kings of Comedy including D.L. Hughley, Cedric the Entertainer, George Lopez, and more.
