New Apple Store Opening at the Glendale Americana

This Saturday Glendale’s Americana at Brand will open its new Apple store.

Americana at Brand owner Rick Caruso announced last May that the outdoor mall will undergo a major expansion.  The remodel comes just three years after the mall’s grand opening.

As part of the expansion Apple Inc. will debut its new store this Saturday.  Apple sent out an email to its customers letting them know the store will open its doors at 10 a.m. this Saturday and the first 1,000 customers will receive a commemorative T-shirt.

Another addition to the 15.5 acre Americana will be a Nordstrom.  Rich Caruso also announced his plans to bring the Nordstrom into a new section of the mall after he bought the Nordstrom store away from the Glendale Galleria.  Nordstrom had been a long time anchor store for the Glendale Galleria for 30 years.

The new Nordstrom at the Americana will feature a 50-foot wide brick façade.  The façade is from a historic 83 year old warehouse located on 230 S. Orange Street.  The building was built in 1928 as a furniture store, used as a UPS warehouse from 1930 to 1935 and was converted into a recording studio after World War II, according to the Daily News Los Angeles. It most recently was the headquarters of Monterry Sound Studios.

“The brick facade will be a charming addition to the project,” Caruso was quoted in the Daily News as saying. “The Americana at Brand already incorporates architectural styles and building details recalling memorable Glendale structures, so it is a natural extension to include the facade in the expansion design.”

The three-level, 135,000 square-foot Nordstrom store is expected to open in fall 2013.
