42-Acre San Pedro Development: West Harbor, Coming 2022

A modern, vibrant harbor-side entertainment district is coming to San Pedro, now with a new name: West Harbor. Formerly known as San Pedro Public Market, this new development will provide a variety of fantastic retail, dining, and public attractions. Groundbreaking for the remainder of the project begins in 2021, while the big public unveiling is slated for 2022. West Harbor is primed to be a stunning new Southern California destination on the vibrant LA Waterfront. It is a veritable cornucopia of delights, offering a unique environment that will invite boaters, shoppers, and diners to enjoy live music and experience all the marvels of this resplendent outdoor space.

This waterfront development features some familiar names to Californians, including a concept from Greg Morena (owner of the Albright, the longest-running restaurant on the Santa Monica pier) and a new restaurant and market from chef/restauranteur Robert Bell (owner of Mama Terano).

Some quick hits for you:

  • Visitors will adore the 6,200-seat waterfront amphitheater, situated against the dramatic backdrop of the Battleship USS Iowa (West Harbor and the Port of Los Angles are currently reviewing plans to move the iconic battleship to the site)
  • Harbor Breeze Cruises will provide a brewery, beer garden, and more
  • Maneuvering around West Harbor is an adventure in itself; not only can you drive, walk, or bike, you can also sail or paddle too!
  • An event lawn offers adults a ton of space to stretch out and catch up with friends, while a play area provides kids with equipment and room to burn off energy
  • The southern edge of West Harbor boasts a town square with beautiful dockside space that is perfect for large group outings and formal events

This new development will juxtapose the bustling energy of a working port with the public at play, effectively providing a new entertainment district while expanding public access to the water. It will soon be an attractive escape for San Pedrans and residents of nearby Long Beach and Palos Verdes — another jewel in the crown of the South Bay.

West Harbor serves as a monumental collaboration among two family-owned businesses (The Ratkovich Company &  Jerico Development) and the Port of Los Angeles. In total, the Port of Los Angeles has invested $95 million in infrastructure support for West Harbor — while development and equity partners have guaranteed an additional $35 million.
