The hand-off has occurred!
As of Friday, 8/2, the Barnes & Noble nooks and the covers have been dropped off at City of Hope Cancer Research Hospital in Duarte, CA!
As you can see in the photo above the nooks were warmly received and are in good hands at the hospital. The wonderful staff over there will begin handing them out to the teens immediately, and I am glad to say that they have more than enough to go around. For those of you who are not familiar with this project of ours, here is a little back-story for you:
Roughly a month ago our company (JohnHart Real Estate) teamed up with ToysForTeens.Org to host a Charity Texas Hold’Em Tournament. The goal of the tournament was to raise funds that could be put towards purchasing toys for teens suffering from cancer at City of Hope. Why toys? We feel that there are a myriad of charities directed at raising funds for research but none that focus on actually bringing some happiness to the patients themselves. With this objective in mind we were able to get a lot of donors to come out and play cards for our cause.
Post-tournament we sought out a partnership with a company that could help us make the most of the funds we were able to raise, and Barnes & Noble answered the call! They were able to sell us their nook tablets at price that effectively doubled the amount we had raised. Furthermore they graciously threw in covers for the tablets!
While this may mark the completion of this project, it is hardly a drop in the bucket as far as what we want to do for City of Hope!
We have already begun planning our next fundraiser and look forward to all of you coming out to support us again.
Please continually check back on the www.johnhartcares.com for information regarding our upcoming events, and in-case you missed it before, to all of those who came out and helped:
