Moby Purchases $4 Million Hollywood Hills Castle

Apparently not every homeowner is losing on their investment when selling their property.

World famous DJ, producer and singer/songwriter, Moby has recently purchased Wolf’s Lair in the Hollywood Hills for nearly $4,000,000.  The castle sized home features spectacular views of the Hollywood sign, Griffith Park Observatory, downtown Los Angeles and the ocean.

The previous owners are Jay Faires of Lionsgate Entertainment and former co-host of television’s The View, Debbie Matenopoulos who purchased the home in 2002 for $2.9 million.  Though it was a huge drop from the 2008 listing price of $7.5 million, any return on real estate in this market is welcome.

Moby’s current 4 floor, New York City music studio/apartment was purchased by the musician in 2005 for $4.5 million and had an asking price of $7.5 million.

Moby is already very familiar with the Wolf Lair estate since he had worked with Faires and recorded music sessions in the living room.

The house was originally built in 1927 by the Hollywoodland developer L. Milton Wolf for his family.  Past owners include actress Shelley DuVall, heir to the RJ Reynolds fortune Patrick Reynolds, and concert violinist Efrem Zimbalist.  The guest house has a speakeasy room that was likely used during prohibition along with other secret passageways and compartments.  The home has green marble floor to ceiling columns,  carved and stenciled beams, turrets, linenfold paneling, gable windows and winding staircases.

The property sits on 3.3 acres and has its own grotto waterfall and bridge that empties into the black-bottom heart-shaped swimming pool.

This quiet, stunning property seems to be a 180 degree change from the hustle and bustle of New York’s Manhattan…. that is, except for the price and trendy area.
