New Day One: Drive + PASSION + Urgency + Innovation + Stamina = Success

I hope you all had the opportunity to read the article on DRIVE I sent out a couple weeks ago– the first of a list of five quality ingredients that I think it takes to build your ladder of success in this industry. The second ingredient is PASSION, and I think, as you read the article, you will realize how crucial it is to our company, as well as this industry. I think with a little infusion of this attribute, we will all be that much closer to our personal goals in achieving a successful life. So without further adieu, I give you…

Success Ingredient #2: PASSION

The feeling of something new and the NEED to make it happen. We have all felt that feeling. The nagging voice in your head that just won’t quit. It makes the seconds tick by even slower because the anticipation is building up inside you. And the result is the eruption of that passionate force that you cannot contain and can only hope to channel into something great.

You already have the drive: the motivation to do something amazing, but it is the passion with which you do it that not only has the force to get the job done, but also has the ability to convince others that you are the right person for the job. I am sure we have all had the opportunity to observe people who are just infectious. You don’t know why– you can’t put your finger on exactly what it is, but something about them makes you believe whatever they say and makes you want to buy into whatever they are selling. People are attracted to passion. They are inspired by it. They are motivated by it. They are willing to invest in it. So once you find your drive for something, be relentless, immerse yourself in it and do not be afraid to be excited. Do not be afraid to dream. Do not be afraid to share those dreams with agents and clients. The more vivid your dreams are, the more real they become to those around you. The more detailed they are and the less general, the more specific everyone else can be and the more excited everyone can become because the image in your head is becoming something tangible that everyone can be apart of.

You never want someone to say, “okay, I’m comfortable with letting you list my property”, you want them to be excited about it! People get excited when they know you are passionate about something and they are not just another property, or another number in the mass market that is real estate. Show interest above and beyond just what you need to do or know. Passion doesn’t just meet you at the door, it plans the whole event. It plans years and lifetimes because passion is something that never ends. Passion doesn’t take no. It doesn’t sleep. It doesn’t accept excuses or rely on reason. Passion can build monuments in the sky because it knows of no reason not to. And the people who act upon their passion and refuse to accept the parameters of what they have been told have achieved amazing things. They were able to do these things because they were never inhibited by hearing “no” because the passion in their mind kept them striving toward “yes”.

I spoke a little, last time, about becoming paralyzed or defined by your fear of rejection. Passion has such a bulldozing force forward that it cannot be dissuaded by fear, insecurity or rejection. It has to survive, somehow. And as long as you are willing to continue your pursuit of success, passion has a very important place in your life. Passion is about turning the negatives into positives. It’s about the moments of opportunity amongst a sea of unreached leads. Inventors don’t achieve optimum success with every invention, but they are just as passionate about each and every one. And that is what we all need to remember. New Day One is about each and every day being an opportunity to reinvent yourself and your endeavors. Looking back, you will see that not every day was the most successful, but each and every one you come upon has the opportunity to be. And that’s how you need to approach each day.

You always hear stories of people who heard “no” a thousand times, but never gave up on their dreams. I probably don’t know of one person who said “I knew I had to do this thing, and all the doors opened and I just walked through. It was so easy!!” because that’s generally not the case. You have to WANT something. You have to convince people to get what you want. You have to ask people to believe in you and then deliver once they do. You have to work hard. Passion isn’t a 9-5 job. It is relentless. It wakes you up with ideas in the middle of the night. Sometimes, it keeps you from sleep entirely. Passion will haunt you until you deliver and it expects nothing less.

The reason why passion is one of the key elements in this recipe is because it is hard to succeed in this business without it. I’m not saying you can’t– I’m sure there are agents out there resting on their laurels because they have worked hard in the industry in the past and so their prestige speaks for itself, but with such a low number of successful agents in this business, your passion is the thing that really sets you apart. Your passion births new dreams for you and it is truly the gateway to the other elements in this recipe. Without it, why succeed? Why put in the extra hours? Why put time and effort into ideas that may or may not turn into successful ventures? This business is not a math equation– it is a business built on dreamers and innovators and people who are hungry to succeed.

We here at JohnHart are the future of this industry. We want to set the bar even higher than it already is and extend the elitist divide even more so by taking over that top 1% success and then building upon it, multiplying it, and shattering old statistics with new ones that we have created. We want all of our clients to be hypnotized by our passion and our agents to be infected by it. So instead of the question “Who is going to dream?” the real question should be “Who is going to dream the biggest?”

Passion is in your bones. We are all born with it– it isn’t something we need to learn to do. All we need to do is awaken it within ourselves, hone it and channel it and then let it do it’s job. As I said before, don’t be afraid to dream. Don’t be afraid of failure, instead, focus on the success that is waiting for you. Listen to the passion that is inside you. It is your truth and it will speak volumes to clients and agents alike. Choose you. Choose success. Choose today to be your NEW DAY ONE!

After working with, and for, many different real estate firms, it became apparent to Harout that there was a major disconnect between what consumers needed/wanted and the service that was being provided to them. I find this to be very helpful. I would like to add one thing. We as Agents in real estate. I feel must also have faith in ourselves and the ability of the knowledge we hold in and from our careers.

So when it’s time to call upon that which has been given to us through passion that knowledge will come forward.
